Happy New Years/Heureuse Année 2013!!

So, it's that time of the year again...the first day of the year! I
hope you all said "rabbit rabbit" before talking to anyone else and
didn't get too drunk last night (or drive!). And if last night didn't
totally take it out of you, you should be like the Béninois and keep
up the party for two more days! I am taking this opportunity while my
good luck black eyed peas are cooking to share some of my New Year's
resolutions.

In no rank of importance, I resolve to:
1. Continue to improve my French and make a concerted effort to learn
Waama, as well as the salutations in Dendi, Nateni, Fulfulde, etc
2. Leave my house more often, eat with neighbors more (though this
kinda negates resolution #4), saluate always
3. Eat fewer igname frites (yam fries), cook more beans, and gorge
myself during mango season
4. Continue to boil and filter my water and try to avoid iffy (well,
they're all a little iffy) street food mamans so as to avoid
intestinal parasites/giardia/amoebas/you name it...
5. To add to the above resolution, I would like to continue the streak
of NOT pooping my pants/skirt/pagne/etc during my service (not
kidding)
6. Not get malaria
7. Try my best to keep Ellie from getting knocked up and perhaps teach
her some manners
8. Work hard to make tracts on the Jardin Écologique with Actions et
Developpement
9. Keep my club(s) going as best as possible, start and keep up the
gardens, and possibly take a kid to EA Camp
10. Have a Scholarship Girl for the 2013/2014 school year
11. Organize a 2014 bike tour (with Teresa?)
12. Exercise more
13. Harass the Pendjari people until I get to volunteer with them
14. Make a real effort to study for the GRE
15. Continue to save money and travel both Bénin and other countries
16. Keep in better touch with everyone

May all of you have a happy, healthy, prosperous, fun 2013. Basically,
that is my resolution. What are yours? <3

(ps. Ellie's consist of being nicer to chickens, eating less poop,
stealing fewer of the neighbors' sponges/clothing/food, and to
continue to spread the knowledge of what it's like to have a well-fed,
loved, socialized dog that is both family and protector.)
